You could say voice talent runs in the family. I never knew my Father, but those who knew him tell stories of how he was a master with his voice. I guess that's why I've been behind a microphone for over 20 years....my brother even longer.
I had a short stint in Radio Broadcasting (about 10 years) but I never aspired to become a celebrity in Broadcasting - I was always happier behind the scenes, recording commercials and producing programs. The problem is, if you're not the Morning Guy or the General Manager, the money sucks and so do the hours.
So, I left the radio business to pursue my dream (and make better money). I decided to build my own studio and establish a career in freelance voiceovers. The Internet made it all possible. I had my first website up in 1995 and started delivering audio from my home studio in 1998 - back then, there was only about 30 guys listed on Yahoo! offering the service.
Along the way, I discovered a few skills I never knew I had, including - to my pleasant surprise - Acting. Along with dramatically improving my voiceover skills, I found I wasn't too bad at performing on the stage either. To this day, I remain active in theater in view of my long term goal - to win the respect and admiration of my peers as one of the best voice-over actors in the world.
I also found out that I am one of the very few that has expertise in all aspects of running a voice-over business, including recording engineering, computer repair, website development, marketing.....even most of the skills you'd find that of a General Contractor. So, I decided to start up a small sideline of my business - consulting. Since then, I've helped about 30 people get their start in the voice over business, along with coaching Corporate Executives and Salespeople in Public Speaking.
Today, after leaving radio some 12 years ago, I've almost reached the top of my game. I'm currently represented by the William Morris Agency in NYC (all the "big name" voices are there) I'm the National Network Imaging voice for Global/Canwest TV in Canada (one of the top 3 TV Imaging gigs in the country) and I have a client base that......well.......let's just say I've had to hire someone to help me with it...LOL!
That being said, I still remain humble and ever remindful from whence I came, always willing to help others and share whatever I can, whenever I can and however I can. This website helps me achieve that goal.
I hope it has helped you in some way.
Kind Regards,
Todd Schick
