It's called "New Media" and one-by-one, Corporations are tuning in to the benefits of the digital realm. New Media has also opened up the market for voice artists as well, because now more than ever, there's a great need for audio to go along with that snazzy Flash Presentation you're going to use at the next AGM. So, you're going to spend the money to get the Flash done professionally, or perhaps, you do a ton of Flash Presentations and you've hired an in-house programmer. Regardless of your particular situation, at some point you'll likely have to hire a voice talent to narrate. You get what you pay for. While you may think that a narrator shouldn't be that expensive, you should always keep in mind that the lowest rate doesn't always mean the best product. There are voice talents out there who will work for $50, but don't expect a good performance, quality audio or a consultation on your script. So what is the "right" price? Well, I know a few guys and gals who do this sort of thing professionally and I can tell you that 5 minutes of finished audio (about 800 words) will run you anywhere from $250 - $500, depending on the talent. I charge somewhere in the middle, depending on the client and project. Now, keep in mind that's the cost for a "Professional" narrator - not some hack in their basement with a crappy mic and cheap soundcard, who doesn't have a clue what 128 kbps means.... ;-)! Nuff said. Here are some very recent projects I've done for my Corporate clients, which will give you a good idea of what you can expect from a professional voice talent in terms of performance and quality.
