Any professional voice talent will have a number of voiceover demos for you to listen to, so you can get an idea of their overall talent, skill level and vocal range.
However, I have to be honest and tell you that I personally question the usefulness of voiceover demos.
Here’s why.
I can say with 100% accuracy that you are not going to hear me voicing your script on any of these demos. Further – should you choose to hire me for your project – you’re going to want to hear a sample to approve the read and style anyway.
Which begs the question:
“What’s the purpose of voiceover demos?”
To explain it succinctly, it’s a Yes or No proposition. My voice (or variation thereof) is either going to work with your script, or it’s not. It’s kind of like choosing between a male or female voice talent – which is the better fit?
What I perform better than most male voice talent is a “natural” read. I can read a complete piece of textual garbage and make it sound like I wrote it myself and completely understand everything.
This, is why I have voiced almost all my content on this site; you won’t find many other talent who do that.
Before you start listening to voiceover demos, you should have a vocal age range in mind. My vocal age range is roughly 18-45, Male. So that means I can sound as young as 18 years of age, or as old as 45.
Of course, this all depends on the person listening to the voiceover demo. Some people will listen to a voice and suggest that person’s age is 25. Another person listening to the same voiceover on a demo could say 18.
That’s why all voiceover demos should be considered a “guide” to narrow down a vocal age and style. It’s a lot like picking a color.
There’s blue….and then there’s many shades of blue. “Blue” is your vocal age range, the “shade” is the style and tone. How and where you use or apply the color is when you request an audition with your direction.
Start by picking a category and read the titles of each voiceover demo. That’s the best way to narrow down what you’re looking for. I have 14 demos in total, so it’s not like you’re going to be here all day listening to voiceover demos.
If you don’t hear what you’re looking for, please feel free to fill out our voiceover Audition/Quote Request form and I’d be more than happy to send you a custom audio sample of your script.
Regardless of your needs, rest assured I’ve got plenty of experience to give your project that professional touch.
Enjoy!
Love it. Thank you for the personal read on your demos. I’m just getting started in Voiceovers, and it is inspiring.
